The Spanish ghost town of Ciudad Valdeluz

Ciudad Valdeluz is a suburb 60 kilometers (37 miles) northeast of Madrid, Spain. It was meant to be city of 30,000, but only 1,000 people took up residence there after construction halted in 2008 with 75% of the city unfinished due to the economic downturn.

Today, Ciudad Valdeluz resembles a ghost town with the few residents being served by a supermarket, a corner shop and a medical center open twice a week. A security patrol watches over the deserted streets and the empty buildings.

  11. Looked it up because of Top Gear too. Thought it was unlikely that homes could be unoccupied whilst so many people are homeless

  12. I'm here because of TopGear too! Now that I know more about it I only have 2 problems left to solve- 1: get myself from Sydney, Australia, to Spain. And 2: bring along with me a very attractive girl and a very fast car. Something modest. A McLaren 650S springs to mind. In midnight blue :)

  16. Yep, top gear! My 9 yr old son has fell in love with Top Gear (every episode (=•♧)), we where watching re-runs and saw it. I just had to find out...I was thinking "contaminated" or "left over movie set, in the desert" ? Can't believe they are just going to let it all go to waste...sad...

  17. Visited it last week, but "unfortunately" the city seems to be back on track. It is not busy but most parts are being lived in, not as on the Top Gear episode. Some roads are still deserted, but are closed off by roadblocks. Just a sleepy town with some unfinished apartment blocks.
